This Is... The Joker
Lately, I've been seeing a new feathered face around the Courtyard.
I first saw him a couple of weeks ago in the vine. I walked by and heard a rustle. I thought it was BJ, so I said hi BJ! but there was no reply. I looked in and saw:
This new face is a Northern Mockingbird. He frequently takes over BJ's lookout and mimics BJ's movements. He doesn't come into the Cantinas but has been sneaking around the vine.
When you bring me out, can you introduce me as Joker?
Here are some not-so-fun facts about Northern Mockingbirds:
Northern Mockingbirds steal the songs of other birds. They don't have their own birdsong. One bird can mimic up to 200 songs in its lifetime.
They do a strange "wing flash" that displays the white dots on their wings, but no one knows why they do this. Some have thought it's to startle insects, but it doesn't work, so that can't be why. Chaotic, they are.
Northern Mockingbirds "flagrantly harass" other birds. They are even known to attack humans and cats! (Watch out Batman and Catwoman). And while common in backyards, they aren't the feeder-going type. I haven't seen Joker at the Cantinas, and I don't expect to.
With strange behavior and an attitude of harassing and mocking other birds, there is no better name to call this new character of the Courtyard than The Joker.
