The Botanic Apartments
Inspired by my garden adventures and wanting to have fresh produce on hand, my mom got a vertical planter.
Not yet vertical
And over the past two weeks, I've been gradually filling in the apartments.
The planter is from a company called GreenStalk. It has 7 tiers with 6 planting pockets each - that's 42 plants!
In this post, I'll show you what plants have moved in.
First, I transplanted the lettuce from the individual pots. This was the second time I transplanted this lettuce.
Date transplanted: March 12
I stacked a level on top to see what it would be like. It seemed a bit cramped. I thought next time I should plant them closer to the edge.
Not living life on the edge
I'm curious how all the plants on this planter will grow out.
Next, I planted a new parsley and some thyme that I got from the nursery.
Date planted: March 12
In the same level, I transplanted the herbs (parsley, sage, dill, and chives) from their pots.

The reason I transplanted some of the plants is because I like that the vertical planter consolidates space on the Deck. I can use the pots again for flowers in the Courtyard.

I asked my mom what she wanted in the plant apartment complex; after all, she was the investor in the property. She said tomatoes and zucchini.
I went to the nursery and got cherry tomatoes, two zucchinis, a cucumber, and spinach. (I also got a couple other plants that I'll share in the next post).
The tomatoes and spinach came in a punnets of six, so they got their own levels.

The zucchinis and cucumber are sharing a level.

While planting, the base for the GreenStalk planter arrived. My mom ordered it after I told her it needed to have wheels and be able to spin (so plants gets equal sun). I was waiting to assemble the tower once the base came, and I had filled more apartments.

A couple days later I went back to the nursery to get strawberries. I knew I wanted to plant strawberries in the vertical planter.
Strawberries Date planted: March 20
Beach or Coastal Strawberries I think are the name of this variety.
At this point I had filled nearly all the levels so I finally stacked them.
There was only one level and three apartments (on the zucchini / cucumber floor) left. I decided to try something new and plant seeds! The planter and base orders came with seeds, so I had cilantro and lettuce to plant.
I should have taken pictures of the seeds in the dirt but alas! they are there. The lettuce has taken the top penthouse and the cilantro is on the botton level.
And here we have The Botanic Apartments.
Now vertical and no vacancy.
