Nature gave, and Nature hath taken away
It's really hard sometimes being a birdwatcher. While you get to see so much of life's beauty, you also witness the sadness and devastation that come with it.
A few days ago I saw this precious little newborn cutie exploring life.

I was so happy and so nervous at the same time.
Mr. and Mrs. BJ were nervous, too. They were both keeping watch above.

Mrs. BJ came down for feeding time.

The next day, however, I looked out into the Courtyard and saw sorrow in the dirt. I have no idea what happened.
Two minutes later, I saw that Nature did not take away all, as a surviving baby BJ flew up into the Courtyard vine.
She flew about six feet up and eight feet across, giving me hope that she will make it in this harsh world.
I'll calling her Amelia.
Then yesterday, the moment I woke up, I peered through my curtains and saw her again – a new day, a new hope.

Again she flew an impressive flight up into the vine.
I've been on the lookout for her and think I may have spotted her on the neighbor's roof today. Mr. and Mrs. BJ were on the wire and one of them flew over to her and then flew off together. I hope it was her and that she has started Scrub Jay School.
