Chloe's Cantina & Courtyard

Introducing GoldenEye, the Courtyard's Resident Frog!

Today I saw a little frog!

I was disassembling the Botanic Apartments for fall plantings, and there he was! in the water reservoir between the apartment levels.

I was so surprised and delighted. Surprised because how could a frog get into the water reservoir? There is no gap between the reservoir and the tower tier. (I think he came down the water spout). And delighted because he is so cute!

We will call him GoldenEye.

IMG_6964 Ribbet ribbet (translation: Hi) GoldenEye!

GoldenEye is a Baja California Treefrog. He is a native to California and the most popular frog in the Western United States. His color can change based on air temperature and humidity and he eats mostly at night.

Fun fact: "Treefrog are the only frog in the West that makes the classic "ribbet" vocalization."

Speaking of vocalizations, I moved GoldenEye to the birdbath, er, pond, then proceeded to sing him an improvised song – "Who's a cute little froggy..." – at which hopped out onto the fence.

It was lovely to meet the Courtyard's resident frog – I hope you enjoyed meeting him, too!
