Field Trip?
I started this post with: "Today was a most exciting day in the Courtyard." But then I did some research, and now I'm not quite sure.
It was a sight I had never seen before: there was a full flock of the BJ family! I had never seen more than three at a time, but here were seven or eight.
I got this picture when there were five. I saw the sixth one arrive as I was going back into my room to get my big lens camera. Then I saw and heard more as I was marvelling at what I was seeing.
I just didn't get a picture of all of them at once.
While witnessing this in real time, I was so excited. It seemed that Mr. and Mrs. BJ brought their kids for a field trip and Courtyard debut.
Indeed, at least one of them was BJ Junior.
He still has his baby grey feathers.
We will call him Alphie, for Generation Alpha.
The BJ Clan flew all around the neighborhood, having a long and intense conversation.
I am hoping it was a field trip to show Alphie and his brothers and sisters the lay of the land, but the event was so peculiar. I later read that California Scrub Jays will gather in a group when one of their kind dies.
I hate to think about it, but I can't shake the possibility that the BJ family could have been having a funeral.
That said, I really hope it was a field trip, and that Alphie and his siblings are hungry for some Cantina seed.
