Breakfast With BJ
Ahhh, summer. Breakfast al fresco.
The warm summer days have been so nice for eating outside – especially breakfast. It's lovely to wake up looking at the plants and hearing the birds.
Speaking of our Cantina customers, BJ likes breakfast, too.
So much so that one day, he stole mine...
I was peacefully eating my cereal when I went inside for less than ten seconds. When I came back, Sneaky BJ was fleeing from the scene of the theft.
I gave him the rest of my cereal that day. After that, I started sharing pieces of bread.
Then, about a week later, my brother showed me what the neighbor showed him: hold a peanut out in your hand and BJ will come fetch it. He gave me a couple of peanuts. When I saw BJ in the Courtyard later, I tried it:
It was so fun! so, naturally, I got a 5-pound bag of peanuts after that.
Soon, being in the Courtyard was like being in The Birds. It seemed every time I was out there, there was BJ... staring...
While on morning garden patrol:
wtf is my peanut
While walking out the backdoor:
Got peanut?
I'll wait.
While gardening:
I know you have a peanut in your pocket.
While having just given the BJ's peanuts:
Thinking they are being inconspicuous
After just whizzing by and startling me, chasing what looked like, in the corner of my eye, a rat or maybe a squirrel:
I save your life. I want peanut prize.
While I'm inside my room:
The peanuts have to be around here somewhere.
While I'm eating:
Peanut butter on toast. Hmmm, now I'd like to try that...
Because the customers asked, they received. Dine-in service has become one of our most popular offerings.
Here's a compilation of a few of the many peanut feedings so far:
Then... I tried something different. To try to keep him on my hand for longer, I held out seed (thinking the smaller pieces might have him wanting to munch):
If peanut takeout wasn't cute already! It was adorable to have him stay and eat.
🥜
And that is my story of Breakfast with BJ. It's now part of my morning routine to bring peanuts with toast and coffee.
Got him eating out of the palm of my hand.
And roosting on the top of my toes.
Peanut?
:)
