A theft at the Cantina, and the events that followed
As when most robberies usually take place, it happened late at night.
I was sitting in bed reading when I heard footsteps along the side of my room.
Suddenly, there was a thump.
I got out of bed, grabbed my phone, and turned on the flashlight.
Pulled the curtain aside and looked.
Nothing.
I went back to bed.
A few minutes later, I heard the same scurrying sound.
This time, I had my camera ready.
Pulled the curtain aside s l o w l y...
held my phone in the direction of the Cantina...
clicked the button, and...
!!!

The next day
Like a responsible cantina-for-birds owner, I took care of the matter right away - right after coffee anyway; I cleaned up the scene of the crime and put a theft prevention plan in place.
Here's the buffet table before cleaning. Looked like the thief dropped evidence.
To try to make use of the leftovers, I dumped the seeds and covered them with dirt, hoping / wondering if they will sprout.

The Cantina needed a good clean, even before the theft. The recent rain had clumped the seed and I didn't want it to get moldy.
Cantina regular, BJ was at his lookout wondering why his favorite eatery was closed and when it would open.
Clearly he went to a different restaurant for breakfast.

Theft prevention plan
I then put the Cantina in a slightly new location - about 12 inches up. Hoping the thief cannot reach it from here.
And served fresh seed.
Nutritious and rat-free.
After the brief closure, the Cantina was open once again to our happy, welcomed customers.
BJ came back that day for a late lunch / early dinner.
We don't offer birdy-bags, but that doesn't stop our customers from taking their seed to go.
A few days later...
I noticed a hole where the seed is buried.
